“忽吾行此流沙兮，遵赤水而容与。
麾蛟龙使梁津兮，诏西皇使涉予。”
遵，循。
赤水，神话中水名，相传源自昆仑山。
容与，从容貌。一说徘徊貌。

折琼枝以为羞兮，精琼爢以为粻。”
灵氛，第一个占卜师。
历，择。
羞，王逸注“羞，脯”，干肉。这里泛指菜肴。

这两句写灵均准备遵从零分的占卜，去远方寻找美人美政。
“为余驾飞龙兮，杂瑶象以为车。

这两句写灵均以龙御车，以美玉象牙装饰车辆，要远离故宇。

这两句写灵均感叹琼佩可贵，至今都芳香馥郁。暗指灵均自己坚守美好品质，忠君爱国，至今未改。
“和调度以自娱兮，聊浮游而求女。
及余饰之方壮兮，周流观乎上下。”
和，调和。
调tiáo，调整。
聊，暂且。
方，正。
这两句写灵均还是要听从灵氛的占卜，趁着自身美好还没有消耗殆尽的时候，去“求女”配君主，求忠君爱国之人、之志。
“余以兰为可恃兮，羌无实而容长。
委厥美以从俗兮，苟得列乎众芳。”
恃，依赖，依仗。
羌，发语词。
容，外表。
长cháng，美好。
委，丢弃。
厥，其。
苟得，苟且得以，实际配不上。
这两句写灵均以为幽兰可靠，可是它也只是徒有其表。丢弃它的美好同流合污，应该为自己在众芳之列而感到丢脸。这两句与下两句都是严辞谴责变质的香草，与屈原的真实经历有关。官场上的见风使舵，很常见，如果是为保全自身也可以理解。可以此衬托出屈原拒绝同流合污的伟大与艰难。

惟此党人之不谅兮，恐嫉妒而折之。”
琼佩，玉树做的佩饰。上文有写灵均“折琼枝以继佩”。
偃蹇，高耸貌。
薆ài然，受到遮蔽而显得黯然。
谅，信任。
这两句写灵均感叹为何琼佩突出，众人就要把他的光彩遮蔽。他害怕党人嫉妒，就把他的琼佩摧毁。灵均此处是自比琼佩。
“时缤纷其变易兮，又何可以淹留？
兰芷变而不芳兮，荃蕙化而为茅。”
缤纷，杂乱的样子。
淹留，久留。
兰、芷，指香草。
荃、蕙，指香草。
茅，不香的草。
