  • These are great essays and interviews. Probably one of the best podcasts I've stumbled on. Even though I'm late to the party, I'm thankful I got to be here.

  • The best kind of nostalgia

What a treat to revisit the songs that shaped my teens and young adulthood with Rob's deep research, insights and respect for the artists he spotlights. This podcast is all about the music and the very human experiences that shaped it, without veering into gossip or casting judgement. This is The History of New Music for the next generation. (An episode featuring both Rob and Alan Cross would be great!)

  • I used to love this podcast. I still do, but I used to, too

That’s a Mitch Hedberg reference from an episode of this show, sort of. You know what I mean. Anyhow, I absolutely adore this podcast. I don’t really listen to learn about the song/artist, but to hear Rob tell a winding story that nobody can predict where it’s going to go, and it’s just perfect. Rob please make many more episodes!

  • The best!

He has the best dry sense of humour ever! I’m actually very much enjoying the 2000s episodes. I highly recommend! It took me a while to get into the style of this podcast (the interviews at the end took me awhile to enjoy) but I am loving it now! Every single pop culture flashback is amazing! 🙌

They’re very well written and entertaining podcast episodes. 👏

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

“Hallelujah” — Jeff Buckley
Q: If you lived through the late 80s and early 90s, Michael Bolton is as prominent, as dominant, as ubiquitous a musician as anyone you'd maybe rather talk about now from Nirvana on down?
I would prefer to live in a world where Jeff Buckley and Michael Bolton could both be perceived and appreciated and could have perceived and appreciated one another as two ludicrous powerhouse vocalists.
“Hallelujah” — Jeff Buckley
Q: How did you come to Grace? Was it about when it was released or what was your path to him initially?
It was like suddenly your heart just melts and you're like, it's okay to talk about love. It's okay to feel like this. And so I just felt all the feels.
“Hallelujah” — Jeff Buckley
Q: Did Jeff actively see himself in that lineage or worry that he'd meet the same fate that his father did?
Of course, I mean, the rejection and the abandonment, and then like, I guess you're a man, I'm not, so I can't speak to this. But I've heard from my male friends that there's just this comparison with the father.
“Hallelujah” — Jeff Buckley
Q: How did you earn that trust from them?
I spent ten years trying to get this film off the ground, and I wanted to make sure I got it right.
“Hallelujah” — Jeff Buckley
Q: What do you think it is about grace that can sustain this myth, this legacy, just one album?
It's so personal. It's like a hard love, you know?
