Playwright David Ireland: from 'The Troubles' to romantic comedy
Q: So you've written a lot about The Troubles in your work. How do you feel about that now?
I think I've written about everything I want to write about The Troubles, but I've recently finished a new play partly about The Troubles.
Playwright David Ireland: from 'The Troubles' to romantic comedy
Q: You've done one or two short plays, perhaps not all quite this short. Is that a format that appeals to you?
Yeah, it was because my first, the first thing I ever wrote was a 45-minute play.
Playwright David Ireland: from 'The Troubles' to romantic comedy
Q: Do you think as you've got older, you've changed or softened, particularly since you married and got children?
Sadly, it's true. I probably have changed the past few years. My work has probably become less important to me.
Playwright David Ireland: from 'The Troubles' to romantic comedy
Q: What did it feel like to you coming back to it after all this time?
Kind of strange. I haven't really been heavily involved in it. It was very nostalgic to be reminded of that time.
Playwright David Ireland: from 'The Troubles' to romantic comedy
Q: So why is it being revived now? Did they come to you with it or did you want to revive it?
Max, who's directing it, really loves it and a lot of people really love it.
