This was an unbelievable, but true story! It was put together so well that I couldn’t wait to hear more. The narration was great—the voice cadence was almost reminiscent of Desperate Housewives (c’mon who didn’t love Mary Alice’s voice). And, for the ignorant previous reviewers that tore down the host’s pronunciation of Spanish words like she was trying to hard, didn’t bother to learn that she is a Spanish speaker and brought a lot of authenticity to the narration. Excellent podcast, I just w... more
The podcast is a really fun listen. It keeps you fascinated and it’s quite salacious. My issue though that it quite fawning to Corinna, like she is this innocent victim, glossing over the fact that she was basically a mistress and benefitted financially from her affair. I especially love her cattiness towards the Queen. Insulted that the Queen had an issue with an adulterer who was sleeping with her husband.
I really wanted to listen to the story, but I could not make it past the second episode due to the narrator. The inflection and emphasis on different words is incredibly annoying.
I was completely fascinated by the story. I had a problem with the narration however. The narrator is American, but for some bizarre reason attempted to over pronounce Spanish names ridiculously. “Juan Carlos” became”Ahn Garlos” or worse. I frequently had to rewind to figure out what she was saying because it became confusing. It’s like going to a restaurant with someone who when they order a French wine hilariously and dramatically over pronounce the name with a fake French accent.
The story of Corinna and Juan Carlos feels like a fantasy novel from start to finish. Each episode unlocks a new, unbelievable plot twist that kept me wanting more and more. Great storytelling for a great love affair tale!
Fascinating, but why is the tone of the narration so snide, in both the English and Spanish versions? It is disrespectful and doesn’t do justice to the reporting.
Spain is different! 😁
Normally I don’t review podcasts, but I find this podcast particularly offensive to journalism and media in general. And this is an important matter. Breaching the deontological code of journalism, particularly in matters as important as corruption at the highest echelons, money laundering in an industrial scale, and the perpetuation of the cleptocracy which permeates our royal families and ruling classes… well, it’s offensive… and it’s dangerous… then again I can’t imagine anyone can consider t... more
Very very well documented and reported. This is critically important for all Spaniards and monarchs supporters around the world to understand .
But an unfortunate choice of narrators as the tone is very annoying and misses the mark. It distracts from the magnitude of the incredible story. Would absolutely consider retelling this using NPR , wonderly or any more experienced team.
The woman who stole the money
If you’re into one sided, pseudo-journalism, closing resembling a telenovela, then you’ll enjoy this podcast. If you, however, appreciate serious investigative journalism then look elsewhere.
The narrative is a little like Desperate Housewives so can’t take it seriously at times. However interesting to hear her side which makes a lot of sense.
I was looking forward to each week’s new episode. The slightly ironic tone of voice of the narrator implied, without actually saying so, that Corinna certainly is not an innocent angel. IMO, she’s quite lucky to have gotten away without legal punishment. The King sounds like a very vindictive man for whom decency and rules didn’t seem to apply vs his wife/family/business, and also vs Corinna. Having said that, she was absolutely aware of his marriage, and it certainly didn’t seem to hurt her soc... more
Entertaining story in a soap-opera way with a self-serving protagonist (hilariously says she’s not comfortable with Juan Carlos betrayal of her but airily glosses over his cheating Sofia by saying she knew what the was getting into when she married him; no mention of her business activities as organiser of rare animal hunts) but the narration is awful-amateur dramatics acting. I listened while ill-had I been well, I would have given up.
Corinna is a lot of things but certainly not as innocent as she would like to listener to believe.
She writes herself a huge role in the Spanish monarchy/politics/society and she “saved” the country 😂😂
Ok JC is corrupt….what a surprise
But Corinna you are not a female James Bond or even a Bond girl
