Diary of a Space Archivist

Beccy Dye (nee Stirrup)

Sam archives space. Yep. It's pretty boring... until she finds an alien-bat-thing hiding inside her robot companion. How will she keep the cute, and definitely not terrifying, creature safe from the very corporation that employs her? After all, she's just an archivist. Don't worry, everything will be fine... • Stick with it!

I came across the podcast in a crossover episode with another podcast. I enjoyed that enough to start this one. It has a slow start, but stick with it. It’s light and interesting with a delightfully flawed protagonist. The space archivist runs into some interesting problems and finds herself tasked with an impossible job.

  • This starts off as a one-woman show. Just the narrator making an audio diary, in a spaceship with a robot (also voiced by the same actress) and an alien who makes bat-like squeals. The plot is a little irreverent and meandering, but in a fun way (think Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), and I'm not sure what it is leading up to, but the narrator is great company. She is funny and sparkly and it's a pleasure to listen to her. Other characters (played by other actors) appear in later seasons, and ... more

  • Lovely!

Likeable main character, fun bite size episodes, and a cool unfolding plot! I binged this in two days and can’t wait for more seasons.

  • This is such a fun podcast. I love that each episode is on the short side. It makes it a good one for my shorter drives to the store or for when I may be interrupted often. The acting and writing are both very well done. I definitely recommend this one.

  • Happy Place

I’ve never found a science fiction podcast before which captures the Radiophonic magic I used to feel listening to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy radio series as a kid… until now! Of course DoaSA is much smaller in scale, but it really truly exploits the potential of audio to be totally transporting. I love it.

  • One of the pods that got me hooked on indie audio fiction.

The story of Sam and AI Cal as they navigate the tedium of space (until they make a discovery) is a perfect example of how a small indie production can tell a story that's as funny, humane and philosophical as any large studio. Looking forward to the new episodes.

Enjoy this gem of a podcast and don't forget your curly wurlys!

  • This stream-of-consciousness one-woman performance may be the most brilliantly written first-contact story I've ever run across. And excellently acted (by the author). This author deserves our further attention.

  • A great story with a lovely message on doing as little harm as possible with all you do. I love the voiceacting and the fact that Sam and the AI are the same voice is incredibly impressive. Fascinated as to what will happen next for Sam and hoping for more good things to come. Puck honestly sounds so cute! I would love one in real life :)
