梅艳芳生于1963年10月10日，四岁半登台演出，因为擅长唱歌，不得不夜夜在外跑生活表演，但这却遭到同学的耻笑，说她是个“歌女”，是个不正经的女孩。因而，本是天真烂漫的童年岁月里，陪伴她的却是孤单、寂寞、耻笑。姐妹两人表演常遭白眼和欺侮，时常忍冻挨饿。后来家庭突变，梅艳芳便被迫辍学。校园生活并没有带给她应有的快乐。并且在回忆中，她也谈到：如果时光可以倒流，她坦言希望多读书，不用一颗小小心灵便担忧挨饿。
梅艳芳少年时期历经坎坷，然而坎坷的经历同样造就了梅艳芳侠义豪爽的性格和大气沧桑的气质，这段特殊的少年境遇深深影响了她日后的人生道路，并为其传奇一生埋下伏笔。
