Danii and Joy grew up loving the Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin. Now, as queer, literature-loving twenty-somethings and once college roommates they're diving into the books, tv shows, and films to see why they meant so much to them and so many other young girls. Exploring the Baby-Sitters Club universe through a critical gender/race/sexuality/class/etc analysis may seem like an unusual ... more

Back again with special guest Charlotte Abotsi for part two of our discussion of Netflix's portrayal of the super smart Mary Anne Spier who should be acknowledged more for how good she is at the premise of the show, baby-sitting. We get into a lot of... more
We are joined by very special guest, poet, writer, and long time baby-sitter Charlotte Abotsi, to discuss Netflix's portrayal of Mary Anne! We talk lost opportunities around race, our love of Bailey, Mary Anne being the smartest and the coolest, Dawn... more
This one is a doozy! Joy and Danii chat controlling parents, how gay it is to be a girl who is friends with a girl, and virgos before detouring completely into celebrating the Twilight Renaissance and crying about the price of healthcare.

I think that they did really good. Just do you guys snack talked about them.
An interesting idea that falls short in execution. If I'm going to listen to socially-critical analysis of THE cornerstone of classic marketed-for-girls kidlit, it needs to be much deeper than these surface-level "Tumblr discourse taught me everything I know about social justice" takes.
It was definitely a Great Idea! This podcast is awesome!
Joy and Danii are awesome hosts and I am obsessed with the BSC tv show and this podcast is perfect for me. Please make more episodes! I love it so much. My favorite BSC characters are Dawn and Claudia, and my favorite BSC episodes and books are Mary Anne Saves the Day , Dawn and the Impossible Three, and Camp Moosehead.
Love your podcast!
