Your podcast on snoring and other sleep issues was very informative . I have had sleep issues since 2003 after l was diagnosed with Thyroid Stage 2..with life threatening surgery and 2 years of treatments which has whacked my immune system and many other medical issues. It took meds to get back to sleep and if l forget to take it l am up all night.

  • Sugar in our Drinks and Salt in Our Food -- Wrong!

I could only stand so much of this incorrect information! The presentation on salt is incorrect. Salt is NOT well established as a major factor in high blood pressure. Powerful arguments rebut this -- read Gary Taube's "The (Political) Science of Salt". The arguments implicating salt are weak to non-existent. Insulin is a much worse offender, yet it receives no mention. Read the June 4, 2011 JAMA about a study that suggests low salt intake actually increases CVD and stroke risk!

Having a commission to reflect on what was done right and wrong, as well as personal reflections shared by public health leaders could help heal wounds and build trust.
Public Health: How to Make the Invisible Visible with Katelyn Jetelina
Q: What environments and skills can we help students learn while they're students that has traditionally been completely outside the way we think about an MPH?
We need to teach students how to communicate effectively, including writing op-eds, creating policy briefs, and understanding the nuances of different social media platforms.
Dissecting the Biological Complexity of Animal Regeneration

Planarians have evolved strategies like producing rancid mucus to deter predators and reproduce by immobilizing small tail fragments that are hard to detect.
Dissecting the Biological Complexity of Animal Regeneration
Q: What triggers the somatic cells to turn to that state to support the regeneration?
There must be epigenetic mechanisms or chromatin modifiers that are activated in a small subset of cells to drive the expression of genes not previously expressed.
Dissecting the Biological Complexity of Animal Regeneration
Q: Do you think that its ancestral role is to promote differentiation, and then later it picked up a role in the presence of stress?
I favor the hypothesis that the ancestral function of P53 is really to promote differentiation, as evidenced by its presence in unicellular organisms.
