Always informative, fast-paced and filled with fascinating tid-bits, this is by far one of my favorite podcasts.
Interesting and informative- worth listening to.
I really enjoy your podcast.
A small but important detail - Sarah, please learn how to pronounce Thiers. First time, it took me a few seconds to understand who you were talking about. It really grated any time you mentioned his name (quite a lot obv.!). You could take a leaf out of Anita Anand’s ‘book’ on Empire, she goes to great lengths to get it right in that department.
Think what it would sound like if someone kept mispronouncing an American historical character?

No PhD, no peer-reviewed papers- just a TV career and a “Public History” professorship that bypassed the normal academic ladder. Honorary doctorates keep piling up while actual PhD historians with decades in the archives stay overlooked. This podcast could’ve been brilliant with a real scholar. I come away from each series or episode able to turn to another person and give a contextual precis of events like the Gunpowder Plot or the Black Tom incident. While the episo... more
