Loved how this episode reframed wealth through the lens of intention and identity — spending isn’t just transaction, it’s expression. You reminded listeners that money, properly aligned with values, becomes a tool for legacy, clarity, and elevated living. Insightful, grounded, and deeply human.
One of my new faves. Ritholtz is a talented interviewer and has great guests. I love how it’s not just about finance but goes into the guest’s life and often writing/style/career. Wish I wound this earlier but the silver lining is I have a bunch of pending content to consume!
Generally like the show. Depending on guest, some good tidbits to be learned. However, was thrown off by Barry and guest Morgan Housel quoting a passage in Morgan’s book along the lines of “If you [the reader] are a good dad, a good husband,…” then that’s enough for you to earn people’s respect. As it is, so much of personal finance skews male, let’s please not so thoughtlessly [because I don’t believe Morgan had ill intent here] and gratuitously leave out the women. Very interesting podcast. the host, Barry, is very knowledgeable but also a very good interviewer and a good listener.
One drawback is that way too much time is spent in the beginning talking about career paths of guests. That can be covered in 2-3 mimutes max, but it takes 15 - 20 minutes.
It is very fashionable these days to have long intro about guest's lifestory, but the reality is nobody cares about it. Everyone wants to jump to the content sooner.
Overall, highly reccomend.
Loved this episode. What stood out was how the barbell strategy isn’t just a financial framework—it’s a metaphor for leadership: play safe at your core, stretch at the edges. That balance builds durability and upside. Thanks for framing investing not just for returns — but for resilience.
