Rachel Ware and the Fifth-Grade Dream
Q: What was it like moving back to Omaha from LA?
It felt more like a reset than a failure since everyone was starting up again after the pandemic. I didn't feel shame about coming back, especially since my husband had a job there.
Rachel Ware and the Fifth-Grade Dream
Q: How did you get into stand-up?
I always wanted to be funny, and in fifth grade, I mentioned I wanted to be a stand-up comedian. I started doing improv and eventually transitioned to stand-up after encouragement.
Shawn Barnes and the Upstairs Neighborly Advice
Q: How did that first set at an Albany Mic post COVID go?
Shawn describes it as supportive and that everyone made him feel welcome, even if the laughs were reluctant or pitiful; it was a good scene for people to grow in.
Shawn Barnes and the Upstairs Neighborly Advice
Q: Did you have anybody that you like, can hand stuff off to, like if you had to for like a week or something?
Shawn claims that while he could hand things off to someone, he is very much a control freak and prefers to do things his way.
Shawn Barnes and the Upstairs Neighborly Advice
Q: What gave you the final kick to pursue stand-up comedy?
Shawn mentions that his background as a theater kid scratched some of the performance itch, but he needed to discover what he truly wanted to say through comedy, motivated partly by losing things he enjoyed during COVID.
