伊勢神宮に行く前に、四日市に立ち寄りました。四日市は、そうめんの産地でもあります。もうひとつ「伊勢水」と呼ばれる香り高い「ごま油」が特産品となっています。そうめんと伊勢水は切っても切れない関係にあります。そうめんを細く引き延ばす工程で「伊勢水」を塗りながら延ばしていきます。これによって滑らかな喉ごしになり、また味が劣化するのも抑えてくれると言います。四日市の方言に「ぎなぎな」という言葉があります。「ぼちぼち」「ゆっくり」「なんとか」という意味です。意外に腹持ちの良いそうめんを食べて、「ぎなぎな」... more
伊勢神宮をお参りする前に赤福で「ぜんざい」を食べました。「ぜんざい」は「善哉」と書きます。この「善哉」という名前、一休さんが語源と言われています。禅宗の僧たちが弟子を「素晴らしい」と褒めるとき使った言葉です。ある時、禅宗の僧侶だった一休さんが、初めて小豆の汁を食べた時、「善哉」と言ったことでこの名になったとも言われています。つぶあん、こしあん、汁あり、汁無しなどぜんざいとおしるこの間には、さまざまな地方色があり、「ぜんざい」と聞いて思い浮かべるものが違うのもおもしろい食べ物です。

伊勢神宮は、内宮に天照大御神、外宮に豊受大御神が祀られています。お参りの順番としては、外宮から内宮へと言われています。豊受大御神は、お食事の神様で、天照大御神にお食事を作って差し上げているんですね。この外宮から内宮に行く途中にあるのが「おかげ横丁」。ここで食べたくなるのが「伊勢うどん」、ふわふわで、弱い歯の人でも食べられる「柔らかさ」です。美味しいお出汁の醤油を絡めて食べる優しいおうどん。一生に一度は「お伊勢参り」をしたいと思って齢を重ねて来た人たちでも、安心して食べられるように、柔らかい「伊勢... more
桑名の海で育った海苔は、同じ“海苔”という言葉では語りきれない味わいを持っています。その海苔で包まれた「はまぐりの磯辺揚げ」は、まず磯の香りが立ち上がり、次の瞬間、静かな深みが口の中に広がります。桑名の海苔は、揖斐川・木曽川・長良川、三本の川が運ぶ森の養分と、伊勢湾から太平洋へと続く潮の流れが出会う場所で育ちます。上流の森では、式年遷宮に用いられる檜が、何百年もの時間をかけて育てられ、その恵みが川を通って海へ届きます。
