  • Bilge Pumps?

Very interesting, I enjoy the wide rage of topics. The last episode on Coast Guard technology research was amazing.

Question is will the Bilge Pumps appear on the new feed?

  • As a Tank, please keep it up

Guys, you inspire me. I wrote a paper as an undergraduate about how important large deck aircraft carrier were. I love the inside about seeing all of varieties of aircraft design on the deck of a nuclear carrier in the 90s. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why they didn’t continue with the Intruder either (even if only to keep up with the naval literary fiction). I wrote a bit (that was very well accepted by everyone other than the then disgraced Gary Hart) about the limitations of the p... more

  • Great Variety with Experts

Sea Control is comfortable with tackling a very diverse range of topics in the maritime security realm. This is a big strength over other podcasts in the space as conversation is not constrained by the host’s personal sea service or institutional background. Many episodes are very entertaining and super informative- the Bilge Pumps episode and the Larry Bond interview stand out as strong examples of this combo. Only real complaint is that audio quality / production value is not at all consistent... more

Sea Control: 594: From Hulls to Pods with Emma Salisbury
Q: Has anything changed since you wrote that? Have you seen any other successes, failures, or things that the US has changed?
Most of the modularity we see in NATO navies is very much on the Frigate classes of ships, which is a decent use of modularity given their flexibility. However, shipbuilding and design in the US seem to be complicated, leading to fewer new ships being produced.
Sea Control: 594: From Hulls to Pods with Emma Salisbury
Q: What inspired you to write on this particular topic?
I originally started out writing about the Littoral Combat Ship, which is the very famous example of mission modularity for the US Navy. I found issues with the LCS modules not being swapped out and explored how different NATO navies utilize modularity.
