Millions of kids can't read well. Scientists have known for decades how children learn to read, but many schools don’t know about the research. They buy teacher training and books that are rooted in a disproven idea. In Sold a Story, Emily Hanford investigates four authors and a publishing company that have made millions selling this idea.

This podcast changed me. I love this podcast and have listened to it more than once. My mom is a teacher and had to listen to sold a story and I got in the car one day heard a little and told her that she can’t continue until we’re back in the car together.
So go to school that uses phonics and now I understand why it’s really helpful cause I sometimes used to Q system, but it’s just a automatic for me for some reason and now I’m gonna try to sound things out more and also I did not spell this. I used the voice button thing.
I cried during several episodes of this podcast. Sold a Story didn’t just inform me — it reached into a part of my childhood I’ve carried quietly for decades.
