  • He gives you confidence in yourself.

Justin gives not only top technical advice, tools and examples, but perhaps most importantly: he gives you confidence in yourself.

I also love his mix breakdowns of the world’s most popular and/or interesting tunes- popping the hood on how the best mixing/mastering engineers work their magic.

Thank you Justin, top notch work!

MixCon Q&A with Niko Bolas [Neil Young, Prince, Ben Harper, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow]
Q: What do you think about mixing in Surround?
The song will dictate what you do; always double check your binaural interpretation of what you're doing.
MixCon Q&A with Niko Bolas [Neil Young, Prince, Ben Harper, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow]
Q: Have you dabbled with any demixing software?
No and no. I've tried them a couple of times, but I don't like them.
MixCon Q&A with Niko Bolas [Neil Young, Prince, Ben Harper, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow]
Q: What made you choose the Kali Audio speakers?
I listened to them and they were great. I got a set of IN-8s and they had the same top end, bottom end, mid range as my previous speakers.
MixCon Q&A with Prizzie Reid [Usher, John Legend, Alicia Keys, 21 Savage, Kanye West]
Q: What do you expect from mastering?
If I don't know the artist, I expect them to do as little as possible, while if I do know them, I might expect them to provide a second opinion on the mix.
MixCon Q&A with Prizzie Reid [Usher, John Legend, Alicia Keys, 21 Savage, Kanye West]
Q: How do you mix vocals? Do you EQ before or after compression?
I usually cut any problems in the vocals first before applying compression to prevent unnecessary energy from affecting it.
