The Fifty One is a nod to the fact that women make up 51% of the U.S. population. In each season, we take a national issue and work with local reporters across the country to explore its impact on women at the local level. In season 1, we're tackling food insecurity—the drivers of it, solutions, and what it really looks like in communities across the country.

From the first few seconds first episode I listened to, I had already learned something. "Food desert" was a term I had heard of, but wasn't even aware of the threat it poses to women in the U.S. today. I don't ever think about these issues on the day to day, but if this podcast can help to make me both more aware and accountable as a citizen, it's something I want to definitely hear more of!
