  • Visceral, Moving, Encouraging

I just finished Volume 1 of the Happiest Saddest People and wow - what an absolutely beautiful, moving, thoughtful, Christ-centered piece of art. I loved every minute; every story, every observation, every callback. I was moved to worship in every chapter. JL and her entire family are extraordinary storytellers. They were created to do it. And this podcast is evidence of it. I can’t wait for more!

  • Incredible, beautiful, and deeply moving…

Incredible, beautiful, and deeply moving are just a few ways to describe how JL shares her story. Her narratives are captivating, weaving together moments that are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and profoundly inspiring all at once. I’ve found myself both laughing and crying more times than I can count. The way you share the stories that have shaped your life and faith will undoubtedly resonate with many, touching lives in ways beyond imagination—including my own. Well done, my friend. Well done!

  • Good but…

Production and storytelling is great but I am very discouraged by the attitude taken against the churches of Christ.

  • Grief cannot be understood, only experienced.

I hear her words and her voice and I believe them. I lost my mother at 16, and I never thought it would happen to me. I love the narration and storytelling and how it touches that part of me - the grief.

  • an immersive experience

in the first line I was immersed in another world, it grabbed my heart immediately…the pace, the music, and the narrator’s gripping voice all felt like a deep breath on a snowy Colorado mountain. I felt a wide range of emotions from anxious, to playful, to startled and riveted…all things that reminded me I’m alive and I immediately cued up the next episode, I had to know what was next

  • Couldn’t put it down!

I was hoping to listen to JL’s podcast launch sometime this week, but, while my husband had taken the kids to the grocery store, I told myself I’d sneak a five minute preview in. Within the first two minutes, I knew I’d be finishing the episode and wishing to listen to the next. Every word, carefully chosen, paints a picture. An intimate, fascinating dive into death and grief. She brings to life with her voice the elegant, artful, honest style of writing those of us who know her by her books are... more

  • Like breathing underwater

I’ve followed J.L.’s story and ministry for over a decade, and yet not *experienced* it to this depth until now. This isn’t an audiobook, it’s not a sermon podcast, it’s not a quippy surface-level treatment of grief and hope; this is diving down to the very bottom of what it means to be a human, and learning from a trusted friend how to breathe and find the light once you’re down there. Even that isn’t an adequate description, because what J.L. is doing here isn’t really a how-to; it’s masterful... more

  • Goodness in Truth

Not an easy listen, but one that’s needed. To remind us of the truth that God is so good. Even in the midst of a broken world. Even when we are angry at Him. Even when nothing seems to make sense. At the end of the day, He is in control and His promises are true. Eternity will be so worth it! Bravo to the team at Hazefire for this new production.
