  • No presentism!

Love this podcast. Jack does an excellent job with his research and story telling. I appreciate he doesn’t try to judge people of the past as good or evil, while being honest about the words and actions of the period. It’s also such a fascinating history, and he does go deep enough without making it tedious at all. Thanks Jack!

  • “History always begins in the middle of something”

Having recently caught up on the podcast, I can now confidently comment as a long time and attentive listener.

Beginners can start from the beginning or jump right into the podcast, but I HIGHLY recommend starting with S1, E166 "Introduction to Columbian Exchange" to get a true feeling for what this podcast is all about.

Since then I have plowed through every syllable of Jack Henneman’s magnum opus. I cannot express how refreshing it is to enjoy learning our actual history, without the tedious pseudo piety that generally accompanies such a pursuit.

Interview with Matthew J. Tuininga
Q: Could you tell us the sort of principle argument in Wars of the Lord laid out for our readers?
Tuininga explains that the book does not foreground an explicit argument but seeks to portray the intertwined narratives of Puritan religious ideology and their colonial ambitions, correcting a historiographical divide.
Interview with James Horn
Q: How did a fellow with a strange accent like yours end up in charge of the Jamestown Foundation?
I moved to the United States about 26 years ago to continue my work over here and became very interested in the early migration to the Chesapeake Bay, including Maryland, actually, Virginia and Maryland.
