  • Applaud the effort

These guys are consistent about coming out with podcasts, but when you try to have the angle over covering an entire conference, they should do better to hide their fandom. It clouds their opinions on every team that isn’t their own and it, to a neutral, can come off that the other schools don’t mean anything.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

25-26 Valley Hoops Preseason Preview w/ Harry Schroeder
Q: Harry, why are the Redbirds going to cut down the nets in St. Louis and in the regular season?
They have a loaded team with quality players returning, including Walker and Kinzinger, and a strong freshman recruiting class.
25-26 Bradley-Indiana State-Valpo-Illinois State Preview w/ Rocco Miller
Q: What's your thoughts on the Redbirds, the Panthers, kind of like who you see cutting down the nets as the regular season champs?
It's so close, though. I could switch to a couple others, but them as well, like they didn't have a top 100 defense. They did get to 14 wins last year, which was great to see.
25-26 Summer Hoops & News w/ Ryan Pedon
Q: Has developing your non-conference schedule been a challenge this offseason?
Yes, Pedon acknowledges it has been harder to schedule non-conference games now that Illinois State is seen as a competitive team with returning players, contrasting with earlier years when they were easier to schedule.
25-26 Summer Hoops & News w/ Ryan Pedon
Q: Do you think the culture aspect is unique to mid-majors and what you have to do to build a successful mid-major program?
Pedon states that the chase for immediate returns, whether financial or otherwise, is not unique to mid-majors, and warns that pursuing short-term benefits can be risky in the long run.
25-26 Summer Hoops & News w/ Ryan Pedon
Q: Maybe talk about how important the culture is and what you've done to weave your philosophy to retain the athletes that you have this season.
Coach Ryan Pedon emphasizes that the character of the players they recruit is paramount, alongside their athletic talent. He believes that maintaining a strong culture has helped attract and retain quality athletes.
