In this final episode for the Zambezian flooded grasslands, we take a look at Africa's largest otter species, the African clawless otter. I also go off on a tangent about conservation after some further reflection on Gabi and I's discussion. I'm goin... more
Since it was too long for the serval episode, this is the rest of Gabi and I's conversation about conservation. It's a lot. While conservation as a concept is a good thing, there are wrong ways to do it that can result in harm. We need to shift our p... more
In this week's episode, I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with conservation biologist Gabi Fleury. We discuss not just servals, but also African conservation in general and how our views of conservation are/need to evolve to better protect wild... more
This week's species from the Zambezian flooded grasslands, my partner Barry researched the Tsetse and taught me about this infamous fly from sub-Saharan Africa. Learn about the connection between these blood-sucking flies and the British mumiani (vam... more

In this final installment of Jess and I's discussion about baby animals, we talk deer fawn, when people should leave them be, and when people should call a wildlife rehabilitator. As with the other baby animals we talked about, often people just need... more
Best naturalist podcast I’ve heard!
Love this podcast. Just listened to the first two episodes. The hellbender episode was everything I wanted in a podcast. Looking forward to listening to them all! Love your style of conveying info. Love learning about the fun facts and the conservation value of wildlife.
The podcast is very new at the time of this review (only 1 episode!) but it is very clear that Kristen is knowledgeable, passionate, and a devote scientific communicator. She broke her episode down into clear chunks while discussing her animal of the month, including fun biology facts but also information relevant to human life, economic activity, and environmental conservation efforts. For people who love natural spaces and want to learn more about the animals in them, this podcast is a lot of ... more
I've been a follower of The Nagging Naturalist's social media pages for quite a while, and I've learned a great deal about a wide variety of animals. This podcast takes the host's love of animals and brings it to you in an entirely new format. So far, she's only done one episode, on the Hellbender (one of North America's largest salamanders), but it was vastly informative. One aspect I wasn't expecting, but which was appreciated was her conservation messaging at the end, teaching a layman lik... more
