Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Wayne Simpson: The Art of Emotion in Portrait & Landscape Photography
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in portrait photography?
I would suggest starting with a 50mm lens, preferably a fast one, and getting a simple mirrorless or DSLR camera. It's crucial to learn how light interacts with your subjects and to not worry excessively about finding your style too early.
Maxime Légaré-Vézina Wins 2025 Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photographer of the Year
Q: How do you feel about the oversaturation of wildlife photographers now?
The photographer in me prefers the quieter days pre-COVID, but as a guide, more photographers mean more potential customers.
Maxime Légaré-Vézina Wins 2025 Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photographer of the Year
Q: What first sparked your interest in photography?
My interest began in 2014 during a trip to Australia and New Zealand when I purchased my first camera to capture memories.
Gone Pod Wild Part 2: A Chat with Beyond The Wild
Q: Do you find you put down the camera to appreciate wildlife encounters?
All three guests agree that they try to be intentional about appreciating the moments and experiences in nature over solely photographing them.
Gone Pod Wild Part 2: A Chat with Beyond The Wild
Q: What's the worst snack you've ever packed for a shoot?
Ron humorously recounted a camping trip with his son where he packed Chef Boyardee in cans, embarrassing him in front of other campers.
