The PikeCast: A Book Club Podcast On Christopher Pike

Cassie & Cooper

The PikeCast is an in-depth discussion of the work of YA horror author Christopher Pike. Like your favorite book club, in each episode, we break down one of his novels and discuss it from a modern perspective as well as looking through our teenage eyes at the violence, sex, and goofiness that was so prevalent in his writing.

  • Omg you have no idea how excited I am right now

Ok accidentally found this today due to a random conversation leading to an audible search leading me here - I was obsessed with Pikes weird universe and can’t think of anything better than a podcast revisiting these now I can’t wait to cringe and laugh and have fond memories reignited and icing on the cake I had no idea my favourite book the midnight club is a Netflix series and I don’t even care if it is terrible I’m just excited it exists and I get to watch it! Anyway I’m into the first episo... more

  • Excellent

The best Pike/YA horror cast I’ve found. They take the texts at serious face value but mock all the plot holes and strange themes. Very entertaining.

I really hope they are not done with this series, I need alllllll the Christopher Pike books! They have brought back so much nostalgia and even got me back into reading again after so many years of being “too busy” for it… Hoping this review reaches the podcasters cause I NEED MORE!! Please and thank you :)

  • Love but needs more focus

I love that you all are going back to review these books. I did not like to read growing up, but Pike was the only author of books I read. I would stay up until 3 am reading everything of his I could. Sad part is I no longer have these beloved books. While I love the deep dive into the books, I would find it helpful to give more detail as to what happens plot wise, as trying to remember all the small details of the characters falls flat for me. It is really hard to find/buy these classics withou... more

  • Starts out good. But ends being awful.

Found the podcast and enjoyed several episodes. The episodes discussing Remember Me 1 and 2 are funny. And the episode of Remember Me 3 and The Starlight Crystal are meh. The episodes really start to drag by the time they discuss The Starlight Crystal and the next several books. I started getting really irritated listening to the main person behind the podcast. Suddenly things he lists as problematic go from being interesting and funny to be a long winded discussion. I couldn't tell if he wa... more

  • Thank you for validating my teen (and adult) obsession

Thank you for validating my obsession with Christopher Pike. None of my friends in primary/high school ever liked his books. So I kept my true obsession a bit of a secret or felt ashamed for loving these so much. My first book was Last Act in 1991 or 1992 when I was 10/11, and then I became a super fan. I wish I had grown up in a time with the internet so I could have found mega fans to bond with and obsess over. Your podcast is my new favorite - You all put into words how wonderful his stories ... more

  • The original pod does it better

    Smarmy, unpleasant, overly critical hosts.

  • Love it

I’ve tried others, but this is the best 90s YA horror podcast. I’ve been listening since the beginning and will be here until the end. Keep up the awesome work.

  • SOO much fun- been loving the nostalgia

These books were such a huge part of my middle school life- when I stumbled across this podcast I was absolutely thrilled! I credit Pike for the foundation that got me into reading at that age- I’d done Sweet Valley High and the Babysitters Club but this were so outrageous to me at the time that I started begging my mom to take me to book stores :) After these I started L’Engle and later Christie. But I loved the unsettling feeling a bunch of these books gave me, so when I discoed Ender in my 2... more

  • Where have you been all my life?

Just discovered this gem of a podcast and I can’t tell you enough how much I love this. Been a gigantic Christopher Pike fan since I was 12. This show makes me think of books I’ve read dozens of times in new ways. I love the hosts - their passion, their insight, their wit. This podcast is like curling up with a Pike title on a rainy day with a warm cup of tea and a comfy chair.

  • Love this podcast and love Pike!

Christoper Pike was such a huge part of my childhood, so when I discovered that this podcast existed, I was ecstatic. My excitement has only grown as I’ve gone through the archive of episodes and realized that there truly are people who love his books (and his weird McDonald’s obsession) as much as I do!

The hosts are fantastic, the guests are always great, and the commentary is always on-point. I can’t wait for more!
