今、2018平昌(ピョンチャン)冬季オリンピックで盛り上がっている江原道(カンウォンド)平昌郡(ピョンチャングン)。ここ平昌でもう一つ、韓国を代表する冬のイベントが開かれています。大関嶺(テグァンリョン)近辺を流れる川、松川(ソンチョン)界わいで繰り広げられる「第26回大関嶺雪花祭り」。氷と雪の彫刻作品、雪そり、氷の滑り台、伝統遊び体験など、楽しい冬の旅にでかけます。
韓国の北東部、江原道(カンウォンド)束草(ソクチョ)は魅力あふれる観光都市です。 韓国を代表する名山に数えられる雪岳山(ソラクサン)がそびえ、美しい2つの湖、永郎湖(ヨンランホ)と青草湖(チョンチョホ)もあります。 夜明け前から活気あふれる港、水平線を赤く染めて昇る太陽は束草をいっそう美しく彩ります。 冬の情趣が漂う束草への旅に出かけます。
江原道(カンウォンド)の東部、束草(ソクチョ)には他の地域では見られない特別な街があります。 韓国戦争当時、北韓の咸鏡道(ハムギョンド)地方から束草へ避難してきた人たちが集まって暮らしていたアバイ村です。 アバイ村が作られた地域が土砂が積もってできた小さな島で、戦前は誰も住んでいませんでした。 戦争で故郷を離れるしかなかった咸鏡道の避難民たちは、帰れない故郷を懐かしみながらここアバイ村に定着したのです。 今や束草を代表する観光スポットとなったアバイ村へ、ちょっと特別な旅に出かけます。
