  • These guys are great. Very knowledgeable, fun-loving, never in it to shame people who play differently. A great resource for "old school" ideas.

  • Can’t Fast Forward

Not sure what service this pod is using but in most services, I cannot fast forward. Congrats on that… but ANY podcast that disallows fast forward/skip whatever, is dead to me. Will never listen to this show. Bye

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bill Webb! | Necromancer Games | Wandering DMs S07 E14
Q: What unique aspects of the Necromancer's Game do you think stand out?
The game emphasizes negotiation and strategy rather than just combat, making it more engaging for players who enjoy role-playing.
Rutskarn’s Gambit | Creating Political Intrigue with Boot Hill | Wandering DMs S06 E30
Q: How replayable do you think your experience is?
The group he played with had a great dynamic, making it easy to replay the intriguing political scenarios despite the dangers inherent to the Boot Hill system.
Rutskarn’s Gambit | Creating Political Intrigue with Boot Hill | Wandering DMs S06 E30
Q: What worked fundamentally when using a system that only has war gamey simulation mechanics to make a campaign that's entirely not about that?
It created player expectations around death and risk, emphasizing that anytime a character engages in conflict, they could die, with the focus being on smart social play rather than direct mechanics.
D&D Party Size | Gathering the Right Number of Troops | Wandering DMs S06 E32
Q: Do you change the designed encounters if more or fewer players show up?
The answer is that the discussion about altering encounters based on player count is complex and merits further consideration, maybe even a separate episode.
