Q: Did you feel rebellious then in some way that you really had to forge your head and be that woman to break down the barriers in some way?
Yes, it was difficult to break into the creative world due to cultural expectations, but once I moved to Cape Town, I felt liberated and able to pursue my passion more freely.

Q: So what's your parents' story then?
My parents have a unique story where my dad fell in love with my mom while she was dating his friend. They have been together for almost 40 years now.

My break came unexpectedly when a director discovered my avant-garde fashion collection and offered me a job as a costume designer for his indie film, setting me on my path in the industry.

Q: Tell us what your earliest memories are of growing up there. What was life like for the little girl?
Growing up in Pretoria was interesting, especially being raised in a conservative Afrikaans community. Creativity wasn't encouraged much, and I was restricted from pursuing traditional art forms in high school.
