S2 E36: Disappearing Islands: The Race to Save Turtle Eggs from Rising Seas
Q: What will happen to those baby sea turtles after they hatch?
The baby sea turtles will use the geomagnetic orientation learned during their hatching to find their way back to nesting areas when they reach sexual maturity, but it may not necessarily be Raine Island.
S2 E36: Disappearing Islands: The Race to Save Turtle Eggs from Rising Seas
Q: At what point did you reach the decision that this is now our best option?
After weighing all the options, we considered relocating the eggs from Raine Island to Sir Charles Hardy Island as a viable management action to buy time for the turtle population.
S2 E37: Pig of a Problem: Saving Baby Sea Turtles from Porky Predators on the Great Barrier Reef
Q: Can you tell us about yourselves? Dr. Fischer, do you want to give us a bit of your background?
I'm originally from Germany, I completed my Masters in Biology, then moved to Africa for work before ultimately coming to Australia to work on marine turtle conservation and human-wildlife interactions.
S2 E38: Before the Flood: How Fossils Built the Great Barrier Reef (and the Pyramids!)
Q: Russell, how old is the Great Barrier Reef and how did it form?
The Great Barrier Reef is approximately 6,000 to 9,000 years old in its current form, having developed after the last ice age, and there are older coral layers dating back about 120,000 years that were formed during previous high sea levels.
S2 E31: Art Meets Ocean: How Creativity, Science & Community Are Protecting the Great Barrier Reef
Q: Can you tell us about the Museum of Underwater Art?
