  • One of my all time favorite art podcasts. I love learning about bonsai of course, but for this particular podcast, I find the most value in hearing how other artists think and talk about their work and process. It is inspiring and affirming for myself as an artist. These conversations often help me to think about my own creative work in new ways, and from different angles. Thank you so much for all you do!

  • Great conversations

Love the podcast. I listen to all the episodes and look forward to many more. Capturing the feeling of Bonsai doesn’t alway mean you’re talking directly about Bonsai. Fun and insightful conversations with artists, conservationists, and everyday people. 5 out of 5.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

3rd Wheel Potters: Preston Tolbert
Q: What are you going to do next?
I'm excited to get some time in the studio and go through some of these ideas from there.
3rd Wheel Potters: Preston Tolbert
Q: When you say he was difficult, how was he difficult?
It was more along the lines of individual critique that was pretty constant. It was him kind of parrying away all the things that he could see, that it's not as obvious.
3rd Wheel Potters: Preston Tolbert
Q: What does it look like to apprentice yourself to a world class ceramicist?
We were living 7 miles down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere Arizona. Every morning, I would get up and I would go sweep his studio and make sure his tools were clean.
3rd Wheel Potters: Preston Tolbert
Q: How did you get into ceramics?
I started making pots when I first went to college. I took a pottery class and I absolutely loved it and just stuck with it.
3rd Wheel Potters: Eli Akins
Q: What do you feel like you contribute to the group?
Style-wise, I think the foot that I add to a lot of our collaborative pots is a thing.
