As the Executive Director of our store front HIV rapid testing site located in North Philadelphia’s Kensington area. We are on the front line where most of our guest are homeless, active IV substance users, street workers male & females who are living below low income levels who have not health relationships with any health care establishment. I’ve used this podcast as a tool to aid us in our efforts to Ending The HIV Epidemic.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Role of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in Implementing Rapid Phenotypic AST
Q: Are you aware of any data that tells us how widely this is implemented across the country, and how many hospitals are using this currently?
There is currently limited data regarding the wide implementation of rapid phenotypic AST across hospitals; more research is needed to document usage and outcomes.
The Role of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in Implementing Rapid Phenotypic AST
Q: How does the rapid phenotypic AST help augment the antibiogram?
The rapid AST can provide a specific susceptibility profile for a patient, potentially bypassing the need for an antibiogram in complex cases where the antibiogram may not fully represent the current resistance patterns.
The Role of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in Implementing Rapid Phenotypic AST
Q: What is the possibilities of use of rapid AST, phenotypic AST in the outpatient setting to help primary care clinicians kind of make better decisions about those antibiotics for UTIs, et cetera?
There is a great opportunity to expand the use of rapid AST in the outpatient setting, particularly for urinary tract infections. However, challenges remain in validating phenotypic tests on urine cultures.
The Ongoing Challenge of Antimicrobial Selection for Bloodstream Infections
Q: What are your thoughts on social determinants of health and how they intersect with the global problem of inappropriate antibiotic use?
Social determinants of health, such as access to healthcare and environmental factors, significantly impact the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and sepsis rates, with those in underserved areas being at higher risk.
Role of Pharmacists in PrEP Delivery
Q: How does the efficacy of the 211 regimen compare to the daily continuous therapy?
They have been accepted and effective, showing similar prevention risk and no significant differences in uptake.
