  • Consequential and Comical

Informative, funny, disarming and easy to digest. Being the ball of anxiety I am, I REALLY appreciate Laurel’s brand of expertise with a side of humor. She really breaks things down in a way that anyone can understand AND not lose their minds over. I think this pod is going to be incredibly important and we move through a new normal where our government is attempts to replace and silence public health experts.

  • Guests be Sus - I have been a fan of (and following) Laurel since the pre-pandi days when she was known as KingGutterBaby. She's whip smart + absolutely on it - I still believe she is all of that.

My issue is with the guests - blatently incorrect information should be edited out. The guest on the most recent episode (re: supplements + wellness), proported a specific MD to be a grifter, when that is wholly false.

I tried to contact the show to no avail. Subscribe at your own risk. :(

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

CRISPR
Q: What about the ethics of gene editing in general?
There is significant differentiation between treating existing patients with gene editing and creating new patients through heritable genome editing, which raises a different set of ethical concerns.
CRISPR
Q: So shouldn't we be talking about the ethics of things that we can't yet do if they have potential for the future?
Yes, we should engage in ethical conversations about potential interventions before they become possible, as these discussions are crucial for responsible use of technology.
CRISPR
Q: How do you approach something like gene editing? Do you just have to think about every single way that this could be potentially misused?
You need to think about CRISPR as a tool, understanding that its use can lead to many beneficial or harmful outcomes. It's important to engage in broader ethical conversations about what should be done, not just what can be done.
Health Insurance
Q: What does it mean to expand Medicaid eligibility, and what impact could that have on uninsured rates?
Expanding Medicaid eligibility significantly increases coverage rates and reduces the number of uninsured individuals, especially in states like Georgia.
Health Insurance
Q: How does this happen?
The United States is an outlier compared to peer countries in terms of lack of universality, affordability issues, and poor health outcomes.
