  • Promoting political propaganda

Sometimes has episodes that are revisionist to appear diverse. When the show is not trying to rewrite history it’s quite good.

  • Chauvinist

I was just listening to the episode about medieval daily life. The guest that the host had on had very particular ideas about how women’s day life was in the 11th to 13th century, based on nothing but his own beliefs. For example, he mentioned that their lives weren’t so bad, because they could go to the market and to the communal oven, lucky them, and they brought their wears to the marketplace every week to sell, and he was pretty sure, although he couldn’t prove it, that they got to keep that... more

  • Right?

    • SERIES: “Boston Tea Party”. Guest catchphrase: “… Right?” (Not only at the end of sentences, but also MID-SENTENCE!).

•Episode: Life of the Week — Susan B. Anthony: In which the host says: “Her name does loom so large,” then mispronounces that name for the entire podcast.

•EPISODE: History of Extinction in which, in the opening seconds, the host misuses the words “hone in” instead of the correct “home in”. And he’s not even American, which might otherwise explain it. (“To hone” Is to... more

  • Great content but quality has dropped recently

Really enjoy the conversations and information on this pod. Well researched and well produced! Bayeux Tapestry series was excellent!

Shows are getting consistently worse, El Cid episode was embarrassing.

The Rest Is History Podcast is a vastly more entertaining and accurate.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Did the Nazis get a fair trial?
Q: Was there ever any sort of conversational question that any allied contentious factions might be tried?
There was never any question that the crimes perpetrated by the allies would themselves be addressed, and indeed the short answer is the crimes of the Allies were not addressed by Nuremberg.
Did the Nazis get a fair trial?
Q: Did the defendants keep their composure? Was there anyone in the gallery who was kind of, you know, offered any utterance of delight or anything when their verdicts were handed down?
Public responses were not demonstrable; some defendants accepted their sentences, while others were elated to escape death, with mixed reactions overall.
WW2's Tunisian campaign: the Stalingrad of Africa
Q: How did the Allies come to triumph?
They changed their command structure, integrating both the Eighth Army and First Army under effective leadership which allowed them to coordinate their assaults, ultimately leading to victory in Tunisia.
WW2's Tunisian campaign: the Stalingrad of Africa
Q: So why do you think the battle for Tunisia isn't better known?
It has always been considered peripheral, especially as American military strategy favored a quicker victory through Europe. However, I believe it was one of the most effective campaigns of the war.
Forgotten female secret agents of WW2
Q: What were some stories of how they got recruited into this operation?
Many women fled their occupied countries or were involved in resistance, later returning to the UK to serve in SOE.
