  • Not just for coaches

Players, parents and even fans can learn a lot from this show. I’ve listened ti approx 10 episodes so far, hardly know any of the guests but every single ep has been chalk full of great info. New twists on old ideas, large concepts and minute details.

And not just for hockey coaches, I think coaches of all sports can absorb useful concepts from every episode, too. Keep it up fellas!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hockey Psychology (Anthony)
Q: Who's your favorite player to watch in the game and why?
I have a wide swath of players I like to watch for different reasons, but I appreciate players like Mark Kastelic for their effectiveness despite a lack of elite skills.
Jon Stea
Q: What separates a good learner from a bad learner?
A good learner is intentional and focuses not only on what's important but also maintains a broad picture in mind while acquiring new skills and adapting to challenges.
Larry Lauer
Q: What are the main mental skills that high-end players struggle with?
High-end players often struggle with focus, managing stress, and self-talk, especially if they haven't had to refine those skills previously.
Richard Bercuson
Q: So for you, what is the proper way to accelerate learning?
Coaches are not meant to accelerate learning, they are there to aid in it, allowing players to develop skills through practice and play.
Richard Bercuson
Q: What really grinds my gears is when we get, say, a three on three cross-ice game in the zone.
This limits the natural flow of play and introduces unnecessary constraints that don’t reflect real game situations.
