  • Massey Lectures

It would be a very sad day if, for whatever reason, the CBC ever cancels the Massey Lectures. Indeed, it is one of the so rare and easily accessible programs by all Canadians that aims to save the soul of Canadian society.

    Many thanks 🙏

  • IDEAS is a fantastic podcast!

I’m a a CBC-phile for sure and the Ideas podcast is a favourite. When I’m not able to tune in live on a weekday day evening to CBC Radio One, I know I can always catch it here. I think that Ideas host, Nahlah Ayed, is one of our national treasures!!! Her recent series on “Revitalizing Democracy in Canada” should be required listening for every Canadian newcomer and every Canadian citizen. And I hope that our USA neighbours might find Ideas really good and important listening too!!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why AI needs limits so humans can flourish
Q: How do we differentiate between the AI that is doing good for our populations in contrast to the AI that isn't?
When I look at the technology as it exists today, I am astounded, absolutely astounded by how powerful it is, by what we already have right now, and the tools are getting better.
Why AI needs limits so humans can flourish
Q: Do you believe that there's also a possibility each of having a future of abundance with technology?
I think that might very well be true for AI as well. Even if AI progress would stop today, I think it would already be an absolutely revolutionary technology.
Why AI needs limits so humans can flourish
Q: Are you saying to this room of quite a few tech students that actually big tech is, in your opinion, the worst mistake that humanity has ever made?
It very well could be, and the example of farming really makes you think, like here was an enormous transition in the history of this human race.
Can empathy be dangerous?
Q: Is empathy inherently dangerous?
The research suggests that empathy is not inherently dangerous, but its application can become biased based on context and personal identity.
Can empathy be dangerous?
Q: How does fear impact empathy?
Fear, including incidental fear, can reduce empathy, especially towards out-groups, suggesting that empathy is context-sensitive.
