Legend of the Bones is a masterful example of the solo play, audio drama genre. Not only are the narratives well woven and engaging, but the audio quality and voice acting are always of the highest caliber.
Legend of the Bones used classic D&D to tell a powerful dark fantasy story that weaves ancient and Medieval British Culture and modern pulp into a rich and evocative whole. The world building is second to none, the prose lush, and the narration a pleasure to listen to. It has been in my top 5 favorite podcasts since it launched!
I think this has to be my favourite actual play RPG podcast, solo or otherwise.
Simon's world building, character creation and ability to weave a compelling tale that is simultaneously dark and uplifting are second to none. No mean feat.
And the production values are magificent too; music, effects and voice acting all contributing to the sense of something epic in content and scope.
I particularly love the gradually expanding setting. A sort of crypto-celtic vibe permeates the world, and ... more
When I think of solo TTRPG podcasts, Legend of the Bones is right up there at the top. So good!
This in my top 4 insta-listen shows! Simon has been rolling "bones" AKA dice for the fate of his eclectic party for over 3 years at time of this review, and I still thrill to "none shall escape the destiny of bone!" He has also kept quality consistently high throughout. The show always takes you behind the scenes to explain how solo roleplaying works too. Overall, a monumental achievement and you need to follow it.
