Many have called Billy Wilder's work "cynical." Some have even called it "mean." But Wilder, well, he'd say he's just being honest. If that's the case, "A Foreign Affair" may just be his most honest film to date. It's also, in his own words, one of h... more
After a blistering noir and a searing portrait of alcoholism, Billy Wilder’s next film was . . . a Technicolor musical comedy starring Bing Crosby! Why did he make “The Emperor Waltz”? We’re just as puzzled as you are.

I’m somewhat new to The Filmographies Podcast. I found them when my friend Ben Tanzer was a guest on the show, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love the format of examining a new director each season in a way that’s both academic and casual. And the supplemental episodes that veer away from the current director are also nice. It’s fun to hear what the guys think of things that are currently in theaters in addition to their current subject. Can’t wait for season two!
I regularly listen to a few film podcasts, but I stumbled upon this one by chance, and it immediately became one of my favorites. The two hosts have a professional and engaging way of speaking, sharing all kinds of information about cinema with true expertise. Keep up the excellent work, and I'll keep listening.
I think you’re fakes. I think you’re a phonies. And a bad podcast. Stating Wes Anderson fell into cynicism and meanness after writing with Baumbach on Life Aquatic….but then praising Fantastic Mr. Fox as hilarious and a home run….I can’t take you seriously.
Very easy listen, fun and informative for movie fans and just nerdy enough
Fantastic look at a fantastic filmmaker with much sharp insight and humor along the way. Can’t wait to discover who their season 2 director will be:)
