The Hero’s Journey is all around us. It surrounds us and binds us. The stories of the hero’s journey (as described by Campbell and Vogler) have been part of human culture for thousands and thousands of years. Jeff and Dan did more than anyone to apply the tenets of the Journey to modern cinema. They opened my eyes to a new way to view the stories we watch and to see the common threads in them.
I wish I had done more to support them. Even though they just ended I already miss the shows.

Essential listening for the serious movie fan and aspiring screenwriter, each episode is a deep dive into the storytelling technique of well known movies. Hosts are knowledgeable, actually funny, not afraid to debate each other and clearly do a lot of preparation for each ep. They also have a few extra segments including a bit about what alcoholic beverages might suit the movie which is fun (and I don’t drink!). I’m happy to hear a few ads now too if it means this duo get a bit more reward for ... more
Love this podcast. The hosts have great banter and pick really interesting films to breakdown. The show has a good pace and keeps you engaged without being superficial. They have interesting points of views and a it’s a great way to digest these films in a way you wouldn’t think of. A must listen for any story teller, no matter your art-form.
Great fun — the two hosts sure know how to banter. But I came here to learn more about the Hero’s Journey, and they deliver big time on the promise of that premise. Well worth listening to if you’re a writer or just love to geek out about popular storytelling. Thumbs up! 👍
So glad BlueBook recommended this gem of a show. This podcast is all about appreciating stories and how they work. Hosts Jeff and Dan created a winning episode structure, based on Campbell and Vogler. I’m even seeing chunks of my life in terms of the story framework: call to adventure, refusal, crossing the first threshold, etc. And their book, movie, and beverage recommendations are a bonus. Cheers! (“The bar’s in the globe.”)
