The Partially Examined Life is a podcast by some guys who were at one point set on doing philosophy for a living but then thought better of it. Each episode, we pick a short text and chat about it with some balance between insight and flippancy. You don't have to know any philosophy, or even to have read the text we're talking about to (mostly) follow and (hopefully) enjoy the discussion. For link... more

  • Possibly the Greatest Philosophy Podcast

Found this podcast on accident while down a YouTube rabbit hole, as one does. I appreciate the human quality of the discussions. Multiple voices, multiple opinions, disagreements, resolved dialectically. You have the serious critical thinking combined with lighthearted humor.

Seth is definitely my favorite character from the cast. I appreciate how he lays back and randomly interjects when needed. Everyone brings something to each discussion.

  • Examine this entirely

This podcast restarted my engagement with philosophy, and has had a significant impact in my professional and personal life. The dialogue between the hosts has been a model for how I engage with others and discuss complex matters, whether it is with family, friends or my students. I always find their discussion insightful and enlightening, including episodes that cover topics I’m not that interested in. The recent shift to long series taking a deep dive into philosophical movements has been inte... more

  • Their take on Israel is pretty ignorant

Listening to their episode on “Just Wars” in which they falsely claim that Palestine seeks to obliterate Israel, which they therefore say means Palestine has no claims to statehood. It is completely unfounded and erroneous. The militancy of Hamas arose as a response to the militancy, occupation, and apartheid of Israel. This podcast just proves that western philosophers will do anything to draw false moral equivalences when it serves their own interests and blind spots. They need to do much more... more

  • I used to like this. I don't know if it's changed or I changed but I just listened to 3, quite different episodes, and none were good. They really lost me when they did the one on game theory and did a horrible job explaining the prisoner's dilemma, perhaps because they don't understand it themselves.

PEL Presents NEM#243: Corey Ledet's Eclectic Zydeco
Q: Have you ever played with a guest rapper?
I haven't, no, but a lot of other bands have, yeah.
PEL Presents NEM#243: Corey Ledet's Eclectic Zydeco
Q: So what is that kind of beat? Dun-da-dun-da-dun-da-dun. In Zydeco, is that one of the forms?
There's a few different main beats that are used in Zydeco. One of them was actually created by my grandfather. His name was Buchanan Ledet.
PEL Presents NEM#243: Corey Ledet's Eclectic Zydeco
Q: Can you say a little about where you're at with this new Live in Alaska and why you picked this song particular?
I'm capturing the energy of the audience and the energy of the band. It's a different feel, it's a different energy.
PEL Presents PMP#208: An Ed Gein Halloween
Q: Did the show provide a compelling narrative about Ed Gein?
I didn't like it whatsoever because it's mixing true crime with drama and tragedy, which loses the horror element for me.
PEL Presents PMP#208: An Ed Gein Halloween
Q: What do you think of the portrayal of Ed Gein in the mini-series?
It ventures away from what actually happened and makes it very sensational and very tabloidy, which I felt was uncomfortable.
