「懺悔聖事的效果包括」：與天主的關係、與人的關係，以及對自己的影響，讓我們逐一闡述。
首先，「與天主和好」，因為領受告解，表示自己悔意，「因此獲得罪之赦」。其實天主早就時時寬恕的，但我們懺悔，猶如打開一扇門，讓祂的恩寵進入我們之內，因而與天主重修舊好。

答案很明顯，是有的。為什麼呢？因為神父或主教聽告解，身份不是他們自己的，而是代表教會，代表天主與人之間的那位中介。
告解其實是向天主懺悔，懺悔者以最大的真誠，完全敞開心扉，將內心的種種 訴說出來。因此，聽告解的神父與主教不能將告解者的身份、姓名或內容，透露給任何人。
