曾經有人在探討理性與感性的差異。理性是透過邏輯的思辨、科學的分析而認識事物；感性是起於個人的情緒、情感、私利而考量事物。理性是從客觀的角度處理事物；感性是從主觀的立場對待事物。
在這一集節目中，聖嚴法師針對理性與感性的議題，認為理性與感性的調和，使人安和樂利。促使人間社會的安和樂利，需靠理性和感性的調和，所以兩者不可能單獨存在，必須交互地進行。當理性抬頭的時候，需要用感性來配合，感性太強的時候，又需要用理性來疏導，若是能夠如此，世間才有溫馨和莊嚴。
