  • Great Command and Leadership Podcast

I like this podcast because they are directly teaching how Alan Brunacini led, and they do it without an overload of testosterone, ego, and bravado that many of the fire service influencers depend on to convey the message. These guys are straightforward without taking themselves too seriously. Love this podcast!

It wasn't a challenge; I wanted to write my own path, and the department already knew me.
You Are First Due - Now Own it!
Q: How do you handle that from what Gary's talking about?
Knowing the system is key. Sometimes it's okay to keep somebody level one if you don't know where to put them based on critical factors.
You Are First Due - Now Own it!
Q: What are your expectations of that company before the bell even rings?
We expect you to do a good size up in a good initial radio report, setting the expectations for doing a good job on inspections.
You Are First Due - Now Own it!
Q: How do you set this up for your class, Gary, and what do you mean by now own it?
It's about making sure that we do a good job training ICs because it could be the toughest role on the fire scene, being a company officer with that responsibility.
The Silverbacks on Perspective (Part 2)
Q: What is your go-to message for emerging leaders regarding smart, aggressive young firefighters?
You train them and focus on realistic training that prepares them effectively for real-life scenarios.
