  • Understandable and practical content - not nearly as many ads as other people have stated

The content in the podcast is put together in a way that is easy to understand and implement into your training. It does not have filler/conversational content like other Triathlon focused podcasts do. I enjoy that the episodes are typically 15-30 minutes long and go a great job introducing practical pointers for your workouts/races within that time.

Other reviews have stated that this is a very ad focused podcast. I would disagree - although he does have episode sponsors I do not find that the... more

Ironman Q&A: Weight management; Using ERG; Carb intake; Training when ill, ChatGPT training plans... and much more! | Ep 574
Q: Should I train today or should I rest if I have low HRV and I'm fighting a cold?
Rob strongly advises against training while sick, explaining that it can prolong illness and that it's important to focus on recovery rather than sticking rigidly to training plans when feeling unwell.
Ironman Q&A: Weight management; Using ERG; Carb intake; Training when ill, ChatGPT training plans... and much more! | Ep 574
Q: I used ChatGPT to come up with a plan. The plan has advised me to do a large amount of aerobic riding in the early phase of my training. Is this a good approach?
Rob explains that while ChatGPT pulls information from the internet, it doesn't synthesize or analyze it effectively, and suggests that a personalized coaching approach is likely better than using AI-generated plans.
Ironman Q&A: Weight management; Using ERG; Carb intake; Training when ill, ChatGPT training plans... and much more! | Ep 574
Q: Regarding carb intake, what is your advice for optimizing nutrition during longer rides?
Rob advises starting at 40 to 60 grams of carbs per hour during rides and gradually increasing to between 60 and 100 grams, emphasizing the separation of fluid and carbohydrate intake for better management.
Ironman Q&A: Weight management; Using ERG; Carb intake; Training when ill, ChatGPT training plans... and much more! | Ep 574
Q: I'm looking to lose five or six pounds before race day, and I'm concerned that if I take in a lot of carbohydrates during my long rides, I'm not going to lose any weight.
Rob emphasizes that fueling well with carbohydrates during rides is crucial for Ironman success, and that weight management should focus more on day-to-day nutrition rather than just what is consumed during workouts.
Ironman Q&A: Weight management; Using ERG; Carb intake; Training when ill, ChatGPT training plans... and much more! | Ep 574
Q: Do you have any recommendations for cleat placement on my bike shoes?
Start with the cleat position completely neutral and ensure both shoes are facing forwards without the heel turned in or out. This provides a good neutral starting point for most athletes.
