Episode 138 - AJ Duffy, NATA President
Q: What advice do you have for a young athletic trainer entering the field?
Be honest about your limitations and keep learning to build trust with your colleagues.
Episode 126 - Kris Letang, Patent foramen ovale
Q: If someone has a PFO, do they need to have surgery or a procedure to close it?
Most people who have a patent foramen ovale don't even know they have it, and usually, the hole is so small that it is inconsequential, so treatment is not typically necessary.
Episode 96 - Dr. Ethan Kreiswirth, Black Belt Sports Medicine
Q: Can you explain what blood flow restriction training is and how it aids recovery?
BFR helps keep muscle mass on by creating a hypoxic environment, which can lead to muscle growth without heavy loads.
Episode 96 - Dr. Ethan Kreiswirth, Black Belt Sports Medicine
Q: How do blood timeouts and skin checks work in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments?
We have two blood stops; a third stop results in a disqualification. I aim to control bleeding quickly in competitive matches.
Episode 96 - Dr. Ethan Kreiswirth, Black Belt Sports Medicine
Q: What was it like in the early days, kind of as an athletic trainer, being the medical professional and like also an athlete at that too?
It was challenging to prove myself to coaches and athletes, but being a black belt helped a lot with understanding injury mechanisms.
