  • Skill based activity ideas!

As a new APE teacher I am appreciating this podcast and all the great sharing of information. I would love to see this platform be used to crowdsource activities that focus on a different skill each episode. I often lack inspiration for how to make each skill fun and engaging for students across different abilities, and I’m sure your listeners and guests would have some refreshing ideas.

Unified PE and Sport: What the research says
Q: Can you talk a little bit about why it might be troubling for us to find that there's no empirical research to support Unified PE?
It's troublesome because educational policies call for evidence-based practices, and without supporting research, it's challenging for teachers to implement effective programming systematically.
Unified PE and Sport: What the research says
Q: What led you to embark on this journey as well as what were you hoping to uncover when you did this?
I found it to be a really interesting topic and idea regarding Unified PE, especially after a decision made by the Virginia Board of Education that received significant interest due to the lack of empirical evidence to support it.
Dr. Lauren Lieberman and the Camp Abilities Movement

Through exposure to sports and modifications, as well as a focus on self-advocacy, Camp Abilities equips children with skills and confidence that significantly improves their integration and success in sports post-camp.
Dr. Lauren Lieberman and the Camp Abilities Movement
Q: What inspired you to create Camp Abilities?
Dr. Lieberman was inspired by her experiences volunteering with individuals who have visual impairments and seeing their potential, coupled with a lack of programs for blind athletes.
