Owen Ashworth (Advance Base, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone) joins Dan on a "Kind of Christmas-y" episode of Wheel of Randy. Dan once again walks the sycophantic tightrope, trying to express his extreme fandom without scaring poor Owen. We discuss... more

It's not often that Dan gets star-struck, but Billy Jonas is the exception. For 3 decades, Billy has turned both folk music and children's music on their ear, creating a gentle but principled sound that encourages everyone to find their own voice and... more
Spleen the Wheel? Is that anything? Fellow WPRB enthusiast George Korein takes a spin. We talk about the difference between making music before and after your 20s, bizarre Swedish Christmas rituals, and a new spin on PANTS (a song I thought I had ana... more
I was never a fan of Randy Newman, having, like guest Joh Solomon gone straight from Top 40 to punk, but the host and his guests are rectifying this. The first featured song that blew me away was "Davy the Fat Boy," from its funereal/sideshow opening to its lonely, abrupt ending. The graceful violin and piano of the actual Fat Boy Dance seemed lovely and tender, as if Davy's dancing were light as air. So far; so good; so Randy - Wheel of Randy is a podcast of two folks hanging out and discussing life before segueing into a discussion of Randy Newman songs. The guest picks a Randy song, the Wheel picks a Randy song, and then the host, Dan, picks a Randy song covered by another artist. All picks have interesting discussions. There are some laughs, a little musical analysis and stories of America as stimulated by the music of Randy. Great for Newmaniacs, good for an intro to Newman too.
Love listening to Dan and learning more about Randy. I’m a new big fan!
This is a High Quality Podcast with lots of laughs had by all.
