  • Tenshin Roshi's down to earth style, honesty, and humility has helped me tremendously. Sometimes I think my struggles with Zen practice are weird or dumb, and then Roshi says he dealt with the exact same thing. He also explains the context of the old koans, which helps me work with them a bit more effectively.

I will admit I have only so far listened to Zoom Talk #10 and was completely put off by the host’s weak discussion of BLM and oppression. He immediately started discussing how oppression could happen against AnYoNE, even white people, and it is sooo absurd to oppress another person, (obvious) and that THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO white people were slaves TOO. What a disappointing way to deflect the Black Lives Matter message calling for justice for Black people in the present day, not to mention that ... more

Don't take these concepts for granted; the word compassion has become a cliché. It's about practicing compassion and learning through that process.
Mapping Compassion

If you want a certain way of being to be paramount, then you've got to practice that no matter what society wants to put forward, not following if it's treating people badly.

It's important to look at that for yourself and see, the focus right now is just on that.
