  • Clear history of early Portugal

I’m about eight episodes in, covering roughly 800–1000 CE, and the show does a great job presenting Portugal’s early history in a clear and interesting way. The host explains things simply without oversimplifying, and the pacing makes it easy to follow how events connect. A solid listen to understand how the country developed in its early centuries. I fast-forwarded to the current latest episode, #43, and see it is based around 1145 CE. I hope the host continues into more modern history of Portu... more

  • More Portuguese should know this

For most Portuguese, the history of our country starts and ends with the reconquista, the voyages of discovery, and the Velvet Revolution. With this podcast, I’m learning about the bits in between. I have especially enjoyed the chapters about the Muslim centuries, learning about how there was much more to the story than just muslims and Christians fighting each other. Listening to these sessions while walking around the old Muslim quarter of Coimbra has been a special treat.
