Finding this podcast during my grieving period after I lost a parent helped to fill in so many gaps regarding what happened to me growing up, and why. Going through old boxes and pulling out yellowing paperback FotF parenting books while listening to careful analysis of their contents brought some unexpected clarity (and, surprisingly, levity) that I truly needed in that difficult time.
I didn't rate this then, but I had to today, on account of having found my first "chick tract" in the wild. D... more
I’ve enjoyed all of the episodes, but this one moved me the most. Keep up the good work. And by the way I HATE James Dobson!
I love the show and Jake and Brooke and boyfriend make this such a welcoming home for exvangelicals. My parents were tried in the blood dobsonnites and through this show (and loads of therapy and support from my wife) I have learned that what I experienced was abuse. I hate james dobson and I hate the industry that pushes his bull. But I love this podcast
** updating my review after the Holly Bones Secular Christmas Spectacular** y’all knocked it out of the park. It was hard not to laugh out loud in the grocery store. I will come to a live show (DC??)! Brooke, we adore you. Instant replay. ** I’ve had a fairly consistent podcast diet of deconstruction content for nearly 10 years. This podcast is far and away my favorite. I’ve never laughed so hard over such a dour topic. Jake, Brooke and Friends are delightful hosts who give profound and professi... more
These wonderful people continuously give me hope and solace by breaking down the trauma shared by those who grew up under the abusive teachings of James Dobson. Their chemistry as friends and colleagues makes them wonderful hosts, and their knowledge and understanding give such depth to the analysis of his works and their consequences.
Highly recommend this lovely pair
