It was like the American Dream reduced to its essence—an equal-opportunity quest for a small fortune. What seemed at first like a harmless poem containing nine treasure clues sent thousands on a journey of obsession and desperation. One searcher—Darrell Seyler—... more

  • Engaging and well done

This was a well done and engaging podcast! I looked forward to every episode, as new voices were heard from and more of the story was revealed. Darrell is a complicated man and I am glad he found his father’s family. Forrest Fenn is a a slightly less complicated man; Sasha nailed it when she said he wanted to be a legend. I highly recommend this psychological journey of a podcast.

  • Excellent story telling with a gap

The flow of story telling in this podcast is excellent - engaging and thought provoking. I lost some respect for Darrell, however, after hearing the irony of his multiple children he has not been present for, just as the narrative emphasized the importance of his absent father in his experience. Perhaps Peter should have followed this part of his story more. But overall an entertaining and interesting podcast.

  • Compelling

Totally out of my podcast ‘zone’. Being a UK listener, I didn’t know anything about the treasure hunt. I gave it a go and hooked by the story in itself but mostly the human element(s) brought into it so much so that I started caring about Darrell’s and Peter’s journey.

  • Trojan horse

I prefer to listen to podcast where it is some sort of investigative journalism feel. I’ve been having a hard time, reaching the same kind of interest as I had with the Trojan horse, STown or Who Killed Daphne? and I stumbled upon this. Totally pulls you in and has some interesting twists and turns. Absolutely worth a listen.

  • He’s not searching. He’s running.

Fantastic podcast. Great storytelling. However, Peter..why did you shy away from telling Darrell (or helping him to discover) that he will never heal unless he builds a relationship with his children? Once it was revealed that Darrell had kids, it became clear to me that he’s not searching for connection with a dead father or for something to make his family proud; he’s running from his responsibilities, which has created tremendous guilt and feelings of shame. He’s running from this truth. He... more

  • Tantalizing Trauma

A tantalizing treasure hunt, but the producers go too far in psychoanalyzing their subjects. Ironically, the host accuses Forrest Fenn of something he himself does — profiting from someone else’s lost history.
