  • Sino-centric views

Discussions are well organized and rational. Relevant topics with good details.

But listeners should be aware that the unspoken tone of the show is that China is an exceptional nation, US should not pursue its own interests if that conflicts with Chinese interests.

I listen to this primarily to understand ‘how enemy thinks.’

  • Amazing podcast!

I’d never heard of the sinica podcast until it was mentioned on a video from the Chinese cooking demystified channel on YouTube and decided to take a listen. I left the podcast so excited to explore all of the things they discussed, and some of the comments they only made in passing. China has such a fascinating and amazing history and culture. I’m glad there are podcast and resources like this and Chinese cooking demystified that help to further discovery and understanding.

Murder House: Zhong Na on the Silicon Valley Tragedy That Exposed the Cracks in China's Meritocracy
Q: Could you talk about education, class, and this promise or this illusion of upward mobility?
For generations, China has always believed in education's value, but now resources are unevenly distributed, exposing cracks in that meritocractic illusion.
Murder House: Zhong Na on the Silicon Valley Tragedy That Exposed the Cracks in China's Meritocracy
Q: Zhong Na, how did the story first reach you?
I felt that the story, the English media's depiction of the story didn't do the couple justice, and I realized I had a personal entry point to the story.
Finbarr Bermingham of the SCMP on Nexperia, Export Controls, and Europe's Impossible Position
Q: What are the implications for European acquisition practices going forward?
Bermingham believes drastic changes will occur, making it less likely for similar acquisitions to be approved in the future, especially under the new FDI screening regimes.
Finbarr Bermingham of the SCMP on Nexperia, Export Controls, and Europe's Impossible Position
Q: Could you sketch out what was missing from those first narratives?
Bermingham explains that the situation was much more complicated involving pre-existing geopolitical tensions and concerns about supply chain sovereignty.
Foreign Affairs Editor Daniel Kurtz-Phelan on Shifting Views of China
Q: Do you see a rising generation of younger Chinese scholars willing to contribute?
While it has become harder for voices from China to be heard, Kurtz-Phelan noted efforts to engage younger scholars who can provide nuanced perspectives despite political constraints.
