  • An odd mix

I thought the presenters seemed very knowledgeable until I listened to a show on my own specialist subject area, Palestine and Israel, in which they were coming out with over-generalisations and outright errors all over the place. I’m not sure if that’s just because they’re weak on the Middle East or I didn’t have the knowledge to spot mistakes on other topics. Some good interviewees, so perhaps just stick to the episodes with outside quality.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

China's Place in the New Post-American International Order
Q: How do you think they're interpreting this moment that we're in right now, in the Carney speech?
China is frustrated with the rules-based international order but doesn't want to overthrow it, as it relies on it for its growth and stability.
China's Place in the New Post-American International Order
Q: What was your take from Carney's speech?
It was striking; it signals a break in optics, and the vocabulary of the rules-based order is still powerful even if it's not functioning properly anymore.
Africa and the New World Order: U.S. Pulls Back and China Moves Forward
Q: How can the US rebuild its relationship with African nations?
Judd suggests that building people-to-people relationships and acknowledging the damage done to the US brand in Africa are crucial for rebuilding trust.
Africa and the New World Order: U.S. Pulls Back and China Moves Forward
Q: What do you think is happening in the current US-Africa relationship?
Judd believes the relations are dramatically changed, being less prioritized and more peripheral in policies especially under the current administration.
China's Low-Key Response to the Iran Crisis
Q: What do you think of the criticism that we have heard quite a bit in media narratives and on social media as well that says Venezuela and Iran were both all weather and strategic partners of the Chinese?
The narrative suggests that China's partnerships with Iran and Venezuela are overstated, as China's involvement does not equate to military or significant political support when they face crises.
