  • My favorite labor podcast

I’ve been searching for a labor podcast that wasn’t long, run by old-school union men, and took modern takes on labor problems that have persisted in the country since it was created. This podcast hits the nail on the head. I love it!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Contract Fights Can Help Build Labor Power in 2026
Q: Can you talk about contracts that cover workers across states, national agreements and even pattern bargaining?
Pattern bargaining is an approach in the labor movement where you have targeting not just one employer, but multiple employers in an industry and you try and target usually the weakest link, which ironically is often the one that's doing the best financially.
How Contract Fights Can Help Build Labor Power in 2026
Q: Can you give listeners a bit of a primer on how bargaining works or doesn't depend on how democratic a union is?
When we do things through the contract campaign model versus the negotiations focused model, we see how members actually build power by building relationships with each other to be ready to take increasingly potentially risky steps but steps that give them real leverage in their fight with their boss.
How Contract Fights Can Help Build Labor Power in 2026
Q: How do you see these contract fights and actions around them connecting to other local organizing around broader political issues?
Big contract fights serve as a really critical on-ramp for people to sort of make sure we're all moving in the same direction.
Why Don't We Have More Labor Films? (w/ director Chris Sessions and Working Films)
Q: Chris, could you talk about the choice to include the concept of salting in the documentary?
Incorporating the salting concept was crucial to counter Starbucks' narrative. It illustrated that the labor movement requires internal support from workers who understand the organizing process.
Why Don't We Have More Labor Films? (w/ director Chris Sessions and Working Films)
Q: Chris, what was your vision for the story you wanted to tell, and why did you choose to tell it through the Starbucks Workers United campaign?
The initial interest in this film came from seeing the labor resurgence happening. The purpose of the film was to document the origin of the Starbucks Workers United campaign in Buffalo, New York.
